PALESTINE — The Polar Express is set to board beginning today at the Palestine Depot of the Texas State Railroad.
The train, coordinated by Rail Events Inc., is designed to remind riders of Chris Van Allsburg’s classic children’s story and movie starring Tom Hanks. Riders are treated to a reading of the story, as well as hot chocolate, caroling, a visit with Santa Claus and a treat.
In addition, each child “who believes,” as the story goes, will receive a special gift.
Children are encouraged to wear their pajamas, like the children in the story.
Tickets are $16 for children ages 2-11 and $24 for ages 12 and up. Tickets may be reserved by phone at 1-888-987-2461. Due to problems with the phone system, railroad officials ask those calling to order tickets to keep trying if they are unable to get through.
Departure dates are Friday-Sunday; Nov. 30-Dec. 2; Dec. 7-9; and Dec. 14-23. Departure times are 5:10 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8:15 p.m. each day except Sundays; Sunday departures are only at 5:10 p.m.
