Charles M. McDaniel

Graveside services for Charles M. McDaniel, 77, of Palestine will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Cedar Creek Cemetery with Masonic rites accorded by the Elkhart Masonic Lodge. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mr. McDaniel passed away and went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, Nov. 5 following a lengthy illness.

He was born June 30, 1935 in Hughes Springs, Texas to the late Dick and Vera Mae McDaniel. He graduated from Daingerfield High School and went on to serve in the U.S. Air Force for eight years.

Charles retired from both Lone Star Steel and Air Products and Chemicals. He also was employed at the Elkhart Golf Club. He was past master and life member of the Elkhart Masonic Lodge, member of the Eastern Star, and past president of the board for Anderson County Cedar Creek Water Supply.

He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. He also loved restoring antique cars.

In 1979, Charles met and married the love of his life, Nina L. McDaniel. Together, they made their home in Palestine and shared the love and joy brought to them by their five children.

He is survived by his wife, Nina L. McDaniel, office manager at Anderson County Cedar Creek Water Supply; daughters, Diane Merrill and husband Keith of Sachse, Donna Parish and husband Alvin of Nacogdoches; son, James M. Gilliland of Elkhart; daughters, Melinda Betts and husband Casey of Naples, and Marcy Pegues and husband Dearll of Daingerfield; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
