Annie Gertrude Saunders

Services for Annie Gertrude Saunders, 86, of Elkhart will be at 1 p.m. Monday at the First Baptist Church of Elkhart with the Rev. Bill Gernenz and the Rev. Floyd Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in Pilgrim Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster.

Mrs. Saunders died Thursday at Elkhart Oaks Nursing Center.

She was born Aug. 30, 1926 in Houston County to Ed Kennedy and Hazel Byrd Quarles.

Mrs. Saunders was a medication aide and had worked for Cartmell Home for Aged. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John William Saunders; a son, John Edward Saunders; two sisters, Dorothy Addison and Pauline Streetman; and two brothers, Roger Quarles and Gus Quarles.

Mrs. Saunders is survived by her daughters, Margaret Warren, Joann Dancer, Linda Rodgers and husband James and Vickie Saunders, all of Elkhart; a sister, Lucille Nelms of Round Rock; 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Danny Andrews, Buel Grigsby, Fred Henderson, Johnnie Keeling, Glen Lowery and Carroll Nichols. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Grapeland graduating class of 1945.

Condolence calls will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
