Beverly Jean “B.J.” Posey, 86, was born on Sept. 5, 1925 in Denver, Colo. and passed away on June 22, 2012 in Palestine, Texas.
B.J. was an artist who loved to paint, knit, and crochet, but most of all spend time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing and listening to classical music as well. After graduating from Goodland High School in Goodland, Kan., B.J. later received a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Texas at Austin, became the church secretary and a member of the Ladies Guild at St. Jude’s Catholic Church in Gun Barrel City, and retired from Lakeland Medical Center in Athens.
B.J. was also known for having a strong love for animals and was a member of 4-H during her childhood.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmett and Nellie Morton; husband, Archie Macklyn Posey; brother, Duane Morton and son-in-law, Rickey Legrand Doty.
B.J. is survived by her son, John Macklyn Posey and wife, Fran of Cleveland, Ohio; and daughter, Sherry Marie Doty of Palestine, Texas, as well as, her four grandchildren, Nicole and Gina Posey of Cleveland and Nicholas and Tiffany Doty of Palestine. B.J. will also be greatly missed by numerous nieces, cousins, a special nephew, Howard and his wife Ethel Posey; best friend, Polly Palmer and husband Nick; and her beloved cat and dog, Saskia and Annie. B.J’s family would also like to thank the special nurses, Sheila, Eric, Gina, Tonya and Nikki who took wonderful care of and remember her as a very sweet/comical individual who could brighten their days while she was a resident of Cartmell Home for the Aged in Palestine.
A visitation for B.J. will be held Wednesday, June 27 from noon to 2 p.m. in the Anderson Clayton Bros. Chapel in Kemp, Texas with a graveside service to follow at Kemp Cemetery with Father Francis O’Dowd of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Lufkin, Texas officiating.
