Mary Holmes Davis

Services for Mary Holmes Davis, 99, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Bailey & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Lynn Stroud officiating. Burial will follow in Chambers Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.

Mrs. Davis died Monday at Cartmell Home for Aged.

She was born Jan. 9, 1913 in Tennessee Colony to James Elmo and Lena Hudson Holmes.

Mrs. Davis was a member of the Walston Springs Baptist Church for 70 years where she was a Sunday school teacher. She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Davis was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charlie W. Davis, in 2002; three sisters, Jo Nelson, Clara Holmes, and Juanita Swinney; three brothers, Bill Holmes, Elmo Holmes and Charles Holmes; son-in-law, Arnold Ray; and daughter-in-law, Carol Ann Davis.

She is survived by her daughters, Joyce Davis Ray, and Virginia Davis Walker and husband Buddy, all of Palestine; sons, Wayne Davis of Jacksonville, Dub Davis and wife Wanda of Slocum, and Larry Davis and wife Linda of Palestine; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Terry Walker, Randy Walker, Phillip Davis, Kevin Davis, Lane Davis and Cameron Strange.

Condolence calls will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Bailey & Foster.
