J.C. Loper

Graveside services for J.C. Loper, 88, of Rusk, will be at 10 a.m.,  Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2013, in Mt. Comfort Cemetery with the Rev. Donnie Barron officiating under the direction of Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home in Rusk.

Mr. Loper died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013 in Greenville, Texas.

He was born March 24, 1924 in Jacksonville to the late Pearl Loper and Florine Swearingen.  

Mr. Loper was a resident of Rusk 16 years, formerly of Palestine, and was an auto repair specialist for Joe Johnston Ford in Palestine for 18 years and for Jack Rogers Chevrolet for 24 years as a mechanic and wrecker driver.  

Mr. Loper served in the United States Navy in World War II in Iwo Jima and was a member of First Baptist Church in Rusk.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Glidden Loper; and wife, Aeline Halbert Loper.  

He is survived by daughter, Marcia Ryder and husband Dennis of Greenville; two granddaughters, Michelle McKenzie and husband Greg of Acworth, Ga., and Linda Gail Skinner and husband Tom of Anna; great-grandson, Blake McKenzie and wife Taylor of Ellijay, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Allison Marie McKenzie of Acworth; great-great-granddaughter, Elliana Marie McKenzie of Ellijay; stepdaughter, Bettye Martin and husband Terry of Bryan; stepgranddaughters, Kathryn Laymen and husband Jake of Kansas, and Rebecca Crawford of Bryan; stepgrandson, Joseph Martin of Houston; sister, Letha Nell George of Huntington; and two nieces.

Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 at the funeral home.
