Services for Larry Black Jr. will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at Pleasant Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, 5312 Houghton Ave. in Fort Worth. Burial will follow at Laurel Land Memorial Park under the direction of Baker Funeral Home of Fort Worth.
Mr. Black died Wednesday.
He was born March 12, 1926 in Palestine, Texas. Larry Black Jr. was the son of Katie Denkins Black and Larry Black Sr. Larry served his country honorably in the U.S. Navy, retiring after more than 25 years.
Mr. Black married Vivian Box on Dec.7, 1953. They traveled extensively throughout the country as a military couple until permanently residing in Fort Worth, Texas, on July 26, 1966. They remained a devoted couple until her demise in 2010. Mr. Black also was preceded in death by son, Bennie Coleman Sr.; and grandson, Gerry Coleman.
Mr. Black was a consummate professional who loved every aspect of funeral service. Despite serious health challenges, he represented Baker Funeral Home as an attendant more than 40 years. He was actively involved in Men's Sunday School Class No. 1 and the Brotherhood at Pleasant Mount Gilead Baptist Church.
He is survived by daughter, Linda Fay Black; grandson, Bennie Joe Coleman Jr. (Risa); granddaughters, Vivian Celeste Wrenn and Felicia Michelle Johnson (Ricky); great-grandson, Randal VanMarcus Johnson; great-granddaughters, Inger Rachelle Coleman and Symphony Rikkel Johnson; daughter-in-law, Mamie Coleman; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
