Ethel Virginia Deem Burkhalter, 86, went to be with the Lord Monday, Dec. 10, 2012 at 1:35 p.m.
She was born Sept. 14, 1926 in Walkerville, Ark. to James Leslie and Zada Florence Williams of Emerson and Magnolia, Ark
Mrs. Burkhalter is survived by one brother, Marion Lee Williams of Kilgore; two sons, Paul Monroe Deem of Beaumont and William Leslie Deem and wife Kathleen of Custer, S.D.; and one daughter, Sandra Anne Pell and husband, Mike Pell of Palestine. She is also survived by six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
She was cared for in her home by granddaughter Mandara Vance for the last four years of her life. She was very grateful to be able to stay home. She loved being with her family and pets.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leslie and Zada Williams; one brother, Leonard Williams; her beloved husband, Dallas Burkhalte; and one precious son, Phillip Eugene Deem.
She retired from the Bell telephone company after many years of service. She made the most beloved hand quilted quilts and throws that she shared with her family and friends.
She leaves with us many treasured memories of a Godly woman. She was a member of Bassett Road Baptist Church in Palestine and many years a founding member of Landmark Baptist Church in Athens.
Viewing will be held Friday, Dec. 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home in Palestine, Texas.
The funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at Landmark Baptist Church in Athens, Texas, at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery also in Athens. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster, Palestine.
