John Welch

Memorial services for John Vincent Welch IV, 55, of Palestine, will be at 11 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2013, at Westwood Baptist Church with the Rev. Rick Dees officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mr. Welch passed away Monday, March 18, 2013, at Hospice of East Texas in Tyler.

He was born Oct. 10, 1957, in Ellinwood, Kan. to Laura Lee Sesna and John Vincent Welch III.  

Mr. Welch had lived in Palestine for over 20 years and was a member of the Westwood Baptist Church. He retired from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice after 21 years of service.  He enjoyed getting out on the open road on his motorcycle and loved spending time with his grandchildren.  

He was preceded in death by his father; and his wife, Cheryl.

Mr. Welch is survived by his mother, Laura Lee Steffey of Rockett; children, Stephanie Whitlock and husband Chris of Waxahachie, Leslie Jones of Palestine, John V. Welch V and wife Kendra of Nacogdoches, and Lanie Welch of Palestine; brother, George Welch and wife Angie of Rockett; sister, Larena Wilson and husband Bob of Lyons, Kan.; six grandchildren, Joshua and Jaxon Whitlock, Kless and Kohlton Jones, Kooper Welch, and Eli Welch; and an aunt, Judy Carson of Lyons, Kan.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 21, 2013, at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.
