Bobbie Kennedy Compter

Memorial services for Bobbie J. Compter of Palestine will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Fields Chapel Methodist Church with the Rev. David Blackmon officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home.

Mrs. Compter died in an automobile accident in Palestine on Nov. 16.

She was born in Oakdale, La. to Dennis C. and Thelma Kennedy.

Mrs. Compter enjoyed her gardening, books, and cooking. Her favorite things were shopping with her sister and meeting and dancing with all her friends at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3907.

She maintained a close relationship with her many friends from her time living in New Orleans. She never met a stranger. Her last 15 years, she fell in love with Palestine and what she called her extended family — her sister’s husband Mike’s family.

She was loved by all whose paths she crossed. She loved to share her wisdom.

Mrs. Compter was preceded in death by her father, Dennis C. Kennedy Jr.; sister, Carolyn R. Vickers; and three nieces, Sharon, Denise, and Rhonda Vickers.

She is survived by a son, Edward G. Compter IV of Sedona, Ariz.; mother, Thelma Y. Chamberlain of Oakdale, La.; sisters, Mary Ann (Bea) Winn of Oakdale, La. and Patricia K. and husband Mike Studdard of Palestine; brothers, Dennis C. (Buddy) Kennedy, Thomas J. Kennedy, and Timothy P. (Tim) Kennedy, all of Oakdale, La.
