Dreba Mathews

Dreba Mathews, 86, of Alvin, Texas peacefully passed Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 in Alvin at the Evening Shade care facility in Alvin, Texas.  

Dreba was born May 18, 1926 in Elkhart, Texas. She retired as an executive secretary for the Humble Oil (Exxon) Company after 34 years of service in 1981. She came to know our Lord and Savior as a teenager and is now walking with Jesus Christ.

Dreba was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who dearly loved all her family. She will be missed by all her friends and family.

Dreba was preceded in death by her first husband of 27 years, Lewis W. Richardson; her second husband of 30 years, Harry L. VerDouw; parents, James and Alma Mathews; and brothers, James and Herman Mathews.

Dreba is survived by her daughter, Randi Ivy and husband, Michael; sister, Dorothy Courtney; brother, Robert Mathews and wife, Lucy; granddaughters, Lara Horn and husband, Joey, Lana Jordan and husband, Don; great-grandchildren, Marcus, Megan and Morgan Horn, Nathan and Amber Jordan along with numerous other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013 at Scott Funeral Home with a service beginning at 7 p.m.  Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013 at Fields Chapel Cemetery, Palestine, Texas.
