Brenda F. Johnson Massey

Graveside services for Brenda Massey of Palestine are set for Thursday at New Harmony Community Cemetery at 2 p.m. Family visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine. She had been a resident of Palestine for more than 15 years.

Mrs. Massey died Sunday at Palestine Regional Medical Center.

She was a retired teacher from Tyler Independent School District where she taught second grade for 28 years at Andy Woods Elementary.  

Mrs. Massey was born Jan. 27, 1952, in Tyler to the late Hubert Harold Johnson Sr. and Mary Alice Reeves Johnson.  

She was a graduate of John Tyler High, Tyler Jr. College, and the University of Texas at Tyler where she received her Bachelor of Science in Education.

She is survived by her sister, Anna N. Johnson of Palestine; a niece, Jimmie Sue Mazy of Frankston; a nephew, Loren Johnson of Tyler; an uncle, Ralph Reeves and wife Marion of New Harmony; 11 first cousins, many distant cousins, two great-nieces, and many friends and former colleagues. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Genia Louise; her parents; and a brother, Hubert Harold Johnson Jr.

Rev. Alvin Butler will officiate the service in New Harmony.

Honorary pallbearers are Al Massey, former husband; Sharon Johnson, former sister-in-law; and Ladell Butler, former colleague.

Brenda will be remembered as a true Christian believer in giving of the heart, soul, and mind in support of those in need.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to her favorite charity, East Texas Food Bank.
