  • 2012-2013 Dogwood Circle Boys' Basketball: Grapeland's Walker grows into leadership role

Grapeland junior Patrick Walker can score the basketball. That was never a secret.
Early in the season, Walker routinely put up 25-or-more points and, most of the time, the Sandies won.

The Elks scored 11 of their runs with two outs en route to a 13-0, five inning victory over the visiting Panthers here at The Backyard.

As a Class 3A team, the Wildcats are almost always going up against bigger opponents, being forced to play in a Class 4A district at the moment.
That’ll be no different when the Wildcats head north to Corsicana Friday to take on Waco in the sectional round of the state soccer playoffs.

  • H.S. Baseball: Zavala walk-off hit lifts Palestine over Groesbeck

First, the Palestine baseball team was losing to Groesbeck heading into the bottom of the seventh inning.
Then, without a play being made on the field, they weren’t.
Then, sophomore catcher Ryan Zavala stepped in with one out and two on, his team tied with the team ahead of them in the standings in extra innings.
    Zavala delivered.
