Cayuga's Mack scores 40 (Basketball briefs)

CENTERVILLE — Cayuga’s Lexus Mack scored 40 points in Cayuga’s 62-34 win over Grapeland as part of the Centerville Tournament Saturday.

Mack was 13-of-26 from the field including making eight three pointers. She also made six-of-eight free throws.

Chelsea Brown added six points, Shelby Henry, Shawnta Knox and Chantel Walker each had four points and Molly Griffey and Chasidy Harris each had two points.

Earlier in the tournament, Cayuga defeated Elkhart 63-30 as Mack scored 29 points.

Brown added 14 points and Henry had 12 points. Taylor Wagner scored four points and Ami Baker and Knox each had four points.

Cayuga (8-4) hosts Westwood at 5 p.m. today.



Slocum boys win tournament title



ZAVALLA — The Slocum Mustangs captured the Zavalla Tournament championship Saturday night with a 38-29 win over Diboll.

Slocum (12-2) led by two points at halftime and then outscored Diboll 13-4 in the final frame to get the win.

Kendall Redd led the way with 13 points and Logan Foster had 11 points. Randall Thomason scored eight points and Cole Lane and Steven Prater each had three points.

Slocum hosts Big Sandy Thursday.



Slocum girls top Lovelady



ZAVALLA — The Slocum girls defeated Lovelady 45-41 in the Zavalla Tournament.

Laci Martin led the way for the Lady Mustangs with 19 points. Miranda Bishop had eight points, Shelby Stephens added six points and Kaylee Webb and Kennedy Swain each had five points.

Also during the tournament, Slocum lost to Crockett 47-37. Mandi Martin scored 14 points and Laci Martin had eight points.

Swain and Stephens each had four points and Webb, Bishop and Brice Sizemore had two points each.



Oakwood falls to New Summerfield



FRANKSTON — The Oakwood Panthers lost to New Summerfield 58-54 in the third-place game of the Frankston Tournament Saturday.

Depsite the loss, Kealyne Durham scored 31 points and was named to the All-Tournament team.

Bryson Randle added 10 points, J.P. Hicks had nine points and Travis Eldridge had four points.

    It’s the second straight big week for Allen, who ran for more than 170 yards in a losing effort Zero Week to White Oak.
    In that loss, Coleman also added 102 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

    The Cayuga Wildcats continued their dominant start to the 2010 season, rolling past Mt. Enterprise, 39-15, thanks to a huge second half.
    The ’Cats only led 18-12 heading into the locker room at the half, but stormed back in the second half to earn a commanding win.
