Slocum Mustangs reach championship game

SLOCUM — The Slocum Mustangs reached the championship game of their own tournament with three straight wins.
Slocum played Grapeland in the championship game Saturday night, but due to Herald-Press deadlines, the game was not complete by press time.
The Mustangs (7-1) reached the championship game with three wins over Elkhart, West Hardin and Lovelady.
Slocum started the tournament Thursday morning with a 65-26 win over Elkhart.
Slocum held the Elks to eight points in each of the first two quarters and then 10 points in the second half.
Logan Foster led the way for Slocum with 16 points, Steven Prater scored 15 points and Randall Thomason had 12 points.
Eric Diaz led Elkhart with eight points and Jared Hamm had six points.
On Thursday night, Slocum defeated West Hardin 73-37 as the Mustangs stormed out to a 27-12 first-quarter advantage.
Kendell Redd led the offensive attack with 21 points. Foster added 10 points and Prater and Thomason each had nine points.
In the semifinals Friday night, Slocum topped Lovelady 63-51.
Foster led the way with 16 points, Thomason had 15 points and Prater had 12 points.

It’s the second straight big week for Allen, who ran for more than 170 yards in a losing effort Zero Week to White Oak.
In that loss, Coleman also added 102 yards and two touchdowns of his own. -
Local Roundup: 'Yuga rolls to 16th straight win
The Cayuga Wildcats continued their dominant start to the 2010 season, rolling past Mt. Enterprise, 39-15, thanks to a huge second half.
The ’Cats only led 18-12 heading into the locker room at the half, but stormed back in the second half to earn a commanding win. -
