SLOCUM — The Slocum Mustangs held Central Heights to single-digit points in all four quarters for a 43-23 win Tuesday night.
Slocum (3-0) trailed 7-4 after the first quarter, but used a 12-3 second quarter to take a 19-7 lead. Slocum then held Central Heights to five points in the third quarter and eight points in the fourth quarter.
Randall Thomason scored a team-high 16 points and Logan Foster had 12 points. Kendall Redd and Stevie Prater had four points each, Cole Lane had three points and Fletcher Larkin and Dillon Bickerstaff had two points each.
Slocum is playing in the Burger King Classic at Robert E. Lee High School starting today against Brook Hill.
Grapeland 67, Palestine 49
The Grapeland Sandies defeated Palestine 67-49 Tuesday night.
Aaron Hatton scored a game-high 22 points for the Sandies. Devin Charles scored 11 points, Justin Fletcher had 10 points and Ta’Coyus Walker scored eight points.
Neches 63, Diboll 61
NECHES — The Neches Tigers defeated Diboll 63-61 Tuesday night.
Neches led 30-20 at halftime.
GIRLS
Cayuga 48, Mildred 31
The Cayuga Ladycats got their first win of the season, topping Mildred 48-31 Tueday night.
Chelsea Brown led the way with 17 points and five steals and Lexus Mack had 12 points. Shawnta Knox had eight points and eight rebounds, Chantel Walker had five points and Tiffany Gray, Molly Griffey and Taylor Wagner all had four points.
Cayuga plays in the Lovelady Tournament this weekend, starting with Oakwood at 9 a.m. Friday.
Neches Lady Tigers win two
The Neches Lady Tigers got a pair of wins this week, defeating a pair of Class 3A teams — Central and Diboll before the Thanksgiving break.
The Lady Tigers (8-1) topped Central 59-37 Monday night. Neches led 30-17 at halftime and then put the game away with a 25-10 third quarter.
Kristen Green led the way for Neches with 23 points and Roddricka Patton had 14 points. Cheyenne Haskins scored six points and Diana Patton, Keandra Taylor, Raven McFarland and Kelcie Kinder all had four points.
Tuesday, the Lady Tigers topped Diboll 69-31. Neches held Diboll scoreless in the second quarter to take a 31-13 halftime lead.
McFarland and Green both had 13 points and Diana Patton had 12 points. Haskins scored nine points, Roddricka Patton, Taylor and Kinder each had six points and LaToya Barrett had two points.

'Cats toppled by Manley, Pirates
The Palestine defense got carved up by a future college quarterback and the Wildcat offense couldn't keep up, as PHS fell to Pittsburg here, 51-16.
It's the second straight loss in as many games this season for the Wildcats, but this loss differed greatly from last week's 20-14 defeat at the hands of Brownsboro. -
Running Wild: Allen, Coleman lead Frankston past Westwood
Jamal Allen and Treston Coleman combined for 440 yards rushing to power the Frankston Indians by the Westwood Panthers Friday night, 35-26, in Palestine.
It’s the second straight big week for Allen, who ran for more than 170 yards in a losing effort Zero Week to White Oak.
In that loss, Coleman also added 102 yards and two touchdowns of his own. -
Local Roundup: 'Yuga rolls to 16th straight win
The Cayuga Wildcats continued their dominant start to the 2010 season, rolling past Mt. Enterprise, 39-15, thanks to a huge second half.
The ’Cats only led 18-12 heading into the locker room at the half, but stormed back in the second half to earn a commanding win. -
From the Sideline: Tough schedules can pay off later
As the second week (called Week 1, which seems weird in itself. I’m not the only one that thinks this, right?) of Texas high school football comes to a close, I’ve noticed a trend among some of the local squads.
This has nothing to do with play on the field. At least not directly. But, it has everything to do with a single sheet of paper. -

This week, Allen gets the lead Game Ball thanks to a dominating, 248-yard performance in the Indians’ 35-26 win over Westwood Friday in Palestine. -

All five schools that run cross country will be in Crockett for the Bulldogs’ annual meet. -
