GIRLS

Westwood 52, Buffalo 48

BUFFALO — The Westwood Lady Panthers continued their winning ways Monday night.

Westwood won its fifth straight to start the season, topping Buffalo 52-48.

Destiny Blair had a team-high 14 points and Sierra Henry scored 12 points. Kalen Blair had nine points and Desiree Brown scored six points.

Frankston 65, Oakwood 37

OAKWOOD — The Frankston Maidens defeated Oakwood 65-37 Friday night.

Jerricca Hatton led the way with a double-double as she scored 12 points and had 12 rebounds.

Arreol Bishop scored nine points, Rachel Brumley and Sarah Bullard each had eight points, Sarah Marshall scored seven points, Bree Hill, Cassidee Bruton and Kristie Wilks each had six points and Ashton McDonald had three points.

BOYS

Centerville 49, Elkhart 30

ELKHART — The Elkhart Elks lost to Centerville 49-30 Monday night.

Elkhart (3-2) was led in scoring by Cam Reeves’ seven points. Brandon White, Eric Diaz and John Richbourgh each had five points.

Lane Grant grabbed nine rebounds.

The Elkhart junior varsity team lost to Centerville 45-44 despite Cole Bridges’ 19 points.

Sabine 77, Elkhart 33

NEW SUMMERFIELD — Elkhart suffered its first loss of the season, falling to Sabine 77-33 in the championship game of the New Summerfield Tournament Saturday night.

Brandon White, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the way with 17 points including five three pointers.

Lane Grant added 10 points and Cam Reeves scored four points. Grant and Jared Hamm each had seven rebounds.

  • Wildcats set for tough test in state championship


    AUSTIN — The Cayuga Wildcats are in the state championship game. Now comes one of their toughest tests.
    The Wildcats will play Bronte in the Class A, Division I state championship. The game will be at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas campus.

    AUSTIN — Coming into the Class A, Division I state semifinals, it was Spurger who was going to rely on the three-point shot.
    By the end of game, it was Cayuga who used the shot from behind the arc to its advantage.
    The Wildcats defeated Spurger, 82-48 Thursday morning at the Frank Erwin Center on the University of Texas campus.

    When the University Interscholastic League’s boys state basketball tournament starts Thursday, a pair of Dogwood Circle teams — Cayuga and Slocum — will be aiming for a state title.

    And leading those two teams are a pair of coaches who have helped put their programs on the basketball map. Cayuga head coach Greg Jenkins and Slocum head coach Jay Bruce know each other from their teams playing one another and watching each other’s team. Each coach has a huge amount of respect for the other.
