Elkhart reaches tournament finals (Boys basketball roundup)

NEW SUMMERFIELD — The Elkhart Elks advances to the New Summerfield Tournament finals after defeating the host team 52-51 in overtime Friday night.
The finals, against Sabine, was at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, but due to deadlines, was not available for Sunday’s edition.
Against New Summerfield, Elkhart rallied in the fourth quarter, scoring 24 points to tie the game. The Elks then outscored New Summerfield 7-6 in the overtime frame to get the win and stay undefeated at 3-0.
Cam Reeves led Elkhart with 13 points and Brandon White and Eric Diaz each had 11 points. Jared Hamm scored seven points and Lane Grant had five points.
Slocum 68, Trinity 51
TRINITY — Each Slocum player who scored made a three pointer in the Mustang’s 68-51 win Friday night over Trinity.
Slocum (2-0) made eight three pointers with eight different players hitting from outside the arc.
Slocum led by nine points at halftime and used a 17-5 third quarter to pull away.
Randall Thomason led the Mustangs with 19 points. Kendall Redd, Cale Lane and Stevie Prater each had nine points, Dillon Bickerstaff scored seven points, Jacob Bowman had five points and Fletcher Larkin had three points.
Frankston 60, Oakwood 48
The Oakwood Panthers opened the season with a 60-48 loss to Frankston Friday night.
Oakwood held Frankston to two points in the second quarter, but the Indians outscored the Panthers 38-27 in the second half.
“With this being our first game, I am pleased with how hard our boys played,” Oakwood head coach Tommy Tritz said. “We had some mental mistakes that led to turnovers but our boys kept the game close with good shooting from the field.”
Oakwood’s Kealyne Durham had a double-double with 26 points and 17 rebounds.
J.P. Hicks added 14 points and James Edwards and Zach Bynum each had four points.
Neches 34, Central Pollok 31
Neches defeated Central Pollok 34-31 Friday night.
Neches had a 21-18 halftime lead.
