Slocum starts season with win (Boys basketball)

MADISONVILLE — The defending state champions, Slocum, opened the new season rallying for a 66-60 win over Madisonville Tuesday night.
Slocum (1-0) trailed at halftime but outscored Madisonville 40-27 in the second half to win.
Stevie Prater led the way with 19 points and Randall Thomason had 15 points. Cole Lane hit four three pointers for 13 points and Logan Foster scored 12 points.
Dylan Bickerstaff added five points and Jacob Bowman had two points.
Slocum plays at Trinity Friday night.

Cross Roads 57
ELKHART — The Elks started the season with a 72-57 win over Cross Roads Tuesday night.
Elkhart (1-0) scored 21 points in the third quarter to extend the lead and put the game away with a 24-point fourth quarter.
Jared Hamm had 15 points and nine rebounds, Brandon White had 13 points and five assists and Eric Diaz had 12 points and eight rebounds.
Lane Grant scored 10 points, John Vallard scored eight points and Zach Thomas, Cam Reeves and John Richbourgh all had four points.
Elkhart plays in the New Summerfield Tournament starting Thursday.
LaPoynor 75, Neches 51
NECHES — The Tigers started the season with a 75-51 loss to LaPoynor.
Neches (0-1) trailed 42-22 at halftime.
