QBs one and the same
Watson and Terry leads teams onto field Friday night

Palestine head coach Booker Bowie starts to talk about his quarterback Olin Terry.
Then he changes the topic to Westwood quarterback Tevin Watson. The only thing is the same words he used about Terry, he said about Watson.
The Palestine and Westwood quarterbacks are built out of the same mold as both have lead their respective teams to the brink of the playoffs.
“When I see Tevin Watson, I am seeing Olin,” Bowie said. “They are both good athletes.”
The two quarterbacks, who meet Friday night at Wildcat Stadium, are game changers with their legs and their arms. One may throw a little more than the other. And one may run a little more than the other. But once the game is done, each quarterback has made key plays to lead the offense.
“Terry may run the ball more than Tevin and Tevin may throw the ball more,” Westwood head coach Kevin Anderson said. “But they both run and throw very well and they can take over games.”
Both head coaches have seen in person what the other team’s quarterback can do. In last year’s game, Watson threw for 259 yards and three touchdowns and Terry rushed for 167 yards and three touchdowns.
This year has been much of the same for each quarterback, who both got their first start as a sophomore.
Terry, a senior, will be playing his final game at Wildcat Stadium and a win Friday night will get him into the playoffs for the first time in his career.
“Olin has done so much for this group and this team,” Bowie said. “He is having a great year and is going out in style.”
Terry has over a 1,000 yards both running and passing. He has rushed for 1,193 yards on 141 carries and scored 16 touchdowns. In the air, Terry has thrown for 1,230 yards on 83-of-159 passing and has 11 touchdowns.
“A player like Terry can take over the game,” Anderson said. “It seems like there are times that he can’t be stopped or tackled.”
As a junior, Watson already has one up on Terry — the Westwood quarterback already has been to the playoffs. With a year of experience under his belt, Watson has surpassed his totals from last year.
“He is better than last year,” Bowie said. “He is quicker and his decision making is better.”
Watson is 108-of-166 passing (65 percent) for 1,754 yards and 14 touchdowns. He also has only thrown four interceptions on the season.
Watson does not have the rushing numbers that Terry has, but the Westwood quarterback had not done much running until recently.
Watson, who has rushed for eight touchdowns, had 111 rushing yards against Crockett and 99 yards against Fairfield.
“Tevin has decided to start running and he has done a good job at it and it has helped our offense move the football,” Anderson said.

Leading the way
When the University Interscholastic League’s boys state basketball tournament starts Thursday, a pair of Dogwood Circle teams — Cayuga and Slocum — will be aiming for a state title.
And leading those two teams are a pair of coaches who have helped put their programs on the basketball map. Cayuga head coach Greg Jenkins and Slocum head coach Jay Bruce know each other from their teams playing one another and watching each other’s team. Each coach has a huge amount of respect for the other.
