Cayuga stays perfect in district



MALAKOFF — The Cayuga Ladycats defeated Cross Roads Saturday morning in a matchup of undefeated district teams.

Cayuga (4-0, 27-7) won in four games, 25-21, 25-23, 18-25, 25-22.

Lexus Mack led the way with 14 kills and Shawnta Knox had a double-double with 15 kills and 11 blocks. Shelby Henry added 14 blocks, Brooke Dublin had 35 assists and Chelsea Brown had 24 digs.

The Cayuga junior varsity team lost to Cross Roads 22-25, 25-20, 21-25.

Cayuga hosts Trinidad Tuesday night with junior varsity starting at 5 p.m. and the varsity to follow.



Palestine runners win Neches meet



The Palestine boys and girls varsity cross country teams won their respective divisions at the Neches meet last week.

The Palestine boys won with 59 points as 28 teams competed.

The varsity boys team consisted of Santos Chavez, Alec Meyers, David Rayner, Nick Giles, Felipe Gutierrez, Matthan Lough and Eduardo Munoz.

The Palestine girls took first place with 32 points as Cushing finished second with 83 points.

The varsity girls runners were Kailea Hull, Terinika Farris, Sara Bates, Tania Guitz, Jessica Garcia, Nadia Guitz and Katie Webb.

The junior varsity boys also won the race and their runners included Zach Anthony, Alfonzo Hernandez, Jon Cruz, Edgar Ayala and Edgar Salinas.

The junior varsity girls won their race. Runners included Nidia Umanzor, Shelby Cole, Mckenze Sander, Laura Ives and Hayley Abernathy.



Slocum runs in Lindale meet



The Slocum cross country teams ran in the Lindale Cross Country meet Friday.

In the varsity boys race, out of 147 runners, Logan Foster finished fourth with a time of 18:08. Caleb Edwards was 14th (19:00), Kendell Redd took 70th (21:22) and Jacob Bowman was 106th (22:34).

In the varsity girls race, out of 144 runners, Kaylee Webb was 46th (15:01) and Heather Hoag was 52nd (15:12). Also finishing was Britni Haley in 56th (15:23), Anna Bishop in 100th (17:00) and Brice Sizemore in 114th (17:42).

In the junior varsity boys race, out of 226 runners, Hunter Johnson was 147th, Wade Mitchell was 156th and Matt LaRue was 205th.

    Jamal Allen and Treston Coleman combined for 440 yards rushing to power the Frankston Indians by the Westwood Panthers Friday night, 35-26, in Palestine.
    It’s the second straight big week for Allen, who ran for more than 170 yards in a losing effort Zero Week to White Oak.
    In that loss, Coleman also added 102 yards and two touchdowns of his own.

  • Local Roundup: 'Yuga rolls to 16th straight win

    The Cayuga Wildcats continued their dominant start to the 2010 season, rolling past Mt. Enterprise, 39-15, thanks to a huge second half.
    The ’Cats only led 18-12 heading into the locker room at the half, but stormed back in the second half to earn a commanding win.
