Grapeland rally falls short

TYLER — The Grapeland Sandies fell short in a rally attempt Friday night, losing their first game of the season, 34-31 to Grace Community.
The Cougars, playing in their first game at their new stadium, took a 34-13 lead in the third quarter and had to hold on as the Sandies stormed back.
Ta'Coyus Walker started the rally when he returned a kickoff 81 yards for a touchdown. After a Grace Community turnover, Cameron Boyd connected with Christian Evans for a touchdown to cut the lead to 34-25 heading into the fourth quarter.
Grapeland got within three points at 34-31 in the fourth quarter when Walker caught a 76-yard touchdown pass from Boyd, but the Sandies ran out of time as Boyd's final Hail Mary pass was intercepted.
Boyd finished 23-of-33 passing for 311 yards and four touchdowns. Three of the touchdown passes went to Walker, who finished with five catches for 138 yards.
