PAFL Football: Farris FG lifts Roughnecks to 37-34 win

The Anderson County Roughnecks picked up win No. 3 on the season Sunday, and did so in dramatic fashion.

With the game between the Roughnecks and Temple tied at 34 with two minutes remaining, Anderson County’s Rodney Watson intercepted a Panthers pass to give the Roughnecks a chance to drive for victory.

The Anderson County offense moved the ball down the field, setting up kicker Richard Farris to put the game-winning field goal through the up-rights with two seconds remaining, giving Anderson County a 37-34 victory.

As it did last week, when it held Permian Basin to only 12 points in four red zone trips, the Roughnecks’ defense stole the show Sunday.

Anderson County had seven takeaways in the game, including a 20-yard interception return for a touchdown from Kelly Oberlender, who also had six tackles and a fumble recovery in the victory.

Quarterback David Cummings finished 14-of-26 passing for 281 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Leon Mickens caught four of those passes for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Terrance Henry had four catches for 58 yards and two scores, while Dominick Turner carried the ball 12 times for 75 yards.

Anderson County (3-1) hosts Curry County Sunday in its second home game of the season at Wildcat Stadium. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
