The Cayuga football team opened up the 2012 season on a high-note Friday, rolling past Cushing, 43-25.
The Wildcats (1-0) travel to Mount Enterprise next week, as they try and move to 2-0 on the season.
Alto 48, Elkhart 21
The Sam Wells-era got off on a losing note Friday in Elkhart, while Alto opened 2012 just as it had planned.
The Yellowjackets dominated the Elks Friday at Jerry Ives Memorial Stadium, 48-21.
Elkhart (0-1) hosts Wells former club Frankston (0-1) next week as it looks to get its first win of 2012.
Alto (1-0) travels to Groveton Friday for its second road game in as many weeks.
Centerville 47, Grapeland 18
The opening of the 2012 football season probably seems eerily familiar for both Centerville and Grapeland.
For the second-straight season, Centerville easily ran past the Sandies in the season opener, with the 2012 version going 47-18 in Centerville’s favor once again.
Grapeland (0-1) travels to Trinity Friday in hopes of moving back to .500.
Oakwood 62, Blum 6
The Oakwood football team showed exactly why its ranked in plenty of preseason polls, and why it considers itself a state title contender in 2012.
The Panthers made quick work of Blum in Blum Friday, topping the Bobcats 62-6 in a mercy-rule shortened game.
The test gets tougher for the 10th-ranked Panthers (sixmanfootball.com poll) this week, as they welcome in No. 9 Zephyr to Panther Field for a top-10 matchup.
