BROWNSBORO — Tyler Tutt went 2-3 with two RBI and Cam Reeves picked up his 13th win of the year as the Elkhart Elks topped the Bulldogs by a final score of 7-2 Friday night in Lufkin.
The Elks used a two-run third inning to open up a 3-0 lead on the Bulldogs. That was more than enough for Reeves. The senior righty struck out eight and gave up just two runs in seven innings pitched.
After watching Crockett cut the deficit to two, the Elks pieced together a three-run fifth inning to open up a five-run lead going into the sixth inning.
Jacob Cheatham finished the night 2-3 with a pair of runs scored with Levi Smith and Zack Smith picking up one hit apiece.
Aaron Stone led the Bulldogs with his 2-2 effort including a RBI. Seth Maxwell went 2-4 as the only other Bulldog player to pick up a base hit.
Game 2 is scheduled for noon Saturday at Morris Frank Park in Lufkin. If necessary, Game 3 will be played 30 minutes after Game 2. The winner will advance to face either Hughes Springs or Queen City in the Region III Semifinals.
