FRANKSTON — Despite four first half turnovers, the Frankston Indians overcame first half mistakes with a monster third quarter to handily defeat the Union Grove Lions by a score of 48-8.
Union Grove struck first early in the game, thanks to a fumbled punt return, and on the ensuing drive, the Lions' senior running back Jacob Eads. A converted two-point conversion gave Union Grove the lead, 8-0.
Frankston narrowed the gap significantly by scoring a touchdown of their own, thanks to a 12-yard run by quarterback Ozzie Buckner. The extra point made the score 8-7.
The Indians took the lead in the second quarter thanks to a 42-yard scampered from Buckner to make Frankston's lead 13-8 after a blocked extra point. This would remain the score until the third quarter.
At the very beginning of the third quarter, Frankston's Caleb Williams scored on an electrifying 76-yard touchdown run to further the Frankston lead, now making the score 19-8.
A couple minutes later, Frankston scored another touchdown, this time courtesy of a blocked Union Grove punt. The score then became 26-8.
On Union Grove's next drive, pinned deep in their own territory, a high snap resulted in a safety for Frankston, extending their lead to 28-8.
The scoring continued for the Indians in the third, as Buckner connected with Kendrick Rogers on a 12-yard touchdown pass. On their next possession, Buckner passed to Williams for a 59-yard score, ending the third quarter with a 42-8 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Frankston wrapped up the scoring with a 19-yard run by Daniel Gresham. The touchdown would bring the score to it's final of 48-8.
Despite an early first quarter lead, the Lions of Union Grove, were unable to move the ball effectively, and as a result of an excellent night running the ball, the Indians were able to pull out the victory in Frankston.
