H.S. Football: Westwood tops Crockett for first district win

The Westwood Panthers turned a close first half into a second half runaway Friday as they defeated the Crockett Bulldogs in the final game of the season on senior night by a score of 28-10.

The Panthers got on the board late in the first quarter to start the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run by Trey Jenkins, which was set up by a Crockett fumble to give the Panthers a 7-0 lead.

The Crockett Bulldogs answered with a drive of their own on the next possession, and with just a little over a minute to play in the first quarter the Bulldogs knocked a 28-yard field goal through to narrow the Panther lead to 7-3.

The second quarter saw both teams swap possessions several times until late in the quarter when the Bulldogs pulled ahead with a 1-yard touchdown run with less than two minutes to play in the half.

The Westwood offense was unable to muster a drive, and the game went to halftime with Crockett leading Westwood by a score of 10-7.

In the second half, the Westwood Panthers began to assert their will over the Bulldogs, as the Panther defense held the Bulldogs to a scoreless second half.

The Panther offense, however, was almost unstoppable.

Midway through the third quarter, Westwood re-took the lead with a 4-yard touchdown pass from Chris Thompson to Trey Jenkins. The extra point made the game a 14-10 Westwood advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Panthers put the game on ice with a pair of touchdowns courtesy of Keke Hicks. The first, from four yards out, gave the Panthers a 21-10 lead.

Then as the game came to a close, Hicks produced a 54-yard run to put the game away as a 28-10 victory for Westwood.
