PALESTINE —
Street rods, classic cars, sports cars and trucks will be featured in the Congo Truck Club’s 10th annual Truck and Car Show Saturday.
Sponsored by Ben E. Keith Distributing, the show will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Ben E. Keith parking lot (2019 W. Oak St.).
“People like looking at old cars and trucks so I think we will have a good turnout,” Congo Truck Club spokesman Garland Wilson Jr. said. “Last year we had 60 entries from Palestine, Dallas, Tyler, Shreveport, Buffalo, Marshall and Longview.”
Proceeds from the show will go to the club’s scholarship fund. Prizes will include Best of Show, Best Engine, Best Paint and Best Interior, as well as trophies for first, second and third place.
Truck classes include: 1900 to 1967, 1968 to 1979, 1980 to 1991 and 1992 to the present.
“We let the public judge the different classes,” Wilson said.
Entry starts at 10 a.m. with the cut-off at 3 p.m. Entry fee is $20 per vehicle.
Trophies will be awarded at 4 p.m. SUVs and motorcycles are welcome, Wilson said.
Food and beverages will be available for show participants. Fried chicken plates will be sold for $6, featuring baked beans, potato salad and a drink.
The Congo Truck Club was organized in 1995 as a non-profit organization by Lawrence Reed and Wilson. Since its inception, the club has striven to nourish the spirit of the community by supporting and donating to several charities. The club also participates in local parades and events.
The club has donated to the following: Church functions and events, scholarships, Thanksgiving and Christmas food baskets, toys for children during Christmas, clothes and school supplies for less fortunate children and helping families with hardship burdens.
The club meets at 3 p.m. on the first Sunday of each month at different locations.
For more information about the show or the organization, call Wilson at 903-729-7493 or 903-731-3840 or Reed at 903-731-0106.
