Tennessee Colony man killed in wreck

PALESTINE — A 54-year-old Tennessee Colony man was killed Tuesday afternoon in Houston County after apparently running a stop sign and being struck by another vehicle.

Texas Department of Public Safety officials have identified the deceased man as Timothy John Ronnebaum, 54, of Tennessee Colony.

Ronnebaum was killed when he ran a stop sign at the intersection of FM 2423 and FM 2022, approximately 6 miles east of Grapeland, shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday and was hit by a vehicle operated by 42-year-old Kenneth Anderson of Elkhart, according to DPS Trooper Jerry Kaelin who investigated the wreck.

Ronnebaum was pronounced dead at the scene by Houston County Justice of the Peace Ronnie Jordan.

Anderson was uninjured, and there were no other occupants in either vehicle, according to the DPS.

Ronnebaum was operating a 2000 Chevrolet Metro LSi compact car, while Anderson was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado, according to Kaelin.

"He (Ronnebaum) was driving eastbound on (FM) 2423 and Kenneth Anderson was driving northbound on (FM) 2022," Kaelin said. "For unknown reasons at this point, Mr. Ronnebaum went through the stop sign and his vehicle was impacted at the intersection."

Motorists traveling on FM 2022 do not have a stop sign at that intersection, according to the trooper. The posted speed limit in that area of the roadway is 60 miles per hour, he added.

The trooper said Ronnebaum was wearing a seatbelt and that the airbags in his vehicle deployed, but indicated the compact design of his vehicle likely contributed to the fatality.

The wreck was reported at 12:59 p.m. Tuesday, according to the DPS.
