PALESTINE —
The Palestine community will gather together to share a tradition of singing Christmas carols during the annual Christmas Carol Sing-Along tonight at the Texas Theater.
The sing-along will start at 7 p.m., with the doors opening at 6:30 p.m.
“One of the unique aspects of this event is that almost all of the verses are sung for each carol. But fear not! The words are projected onto a backdrop behind the stage so no one has to remember the words. Wireless microphones are distributed to those in the audience who would like to join in with the lead singers,” said Timothy Triplett, founder and host of the annual event now in its eighth year. “One year there was a group of young girls who sang into a microphone during ‘Away in the Manager.’ Those sweet, young voices rang out so clearly and with such sincerity that they touched every heart in the theater!”
The Christmas Carol Sing-Along brings back memories for Triplett. When he was a child growing up here in Palestine, the third graders from all the elementary schools came together at First Baptist Church of Palestine for a Christmas concert and sang the old Christmas carols.
“These carols speak of love, joy, peace, thankfulness and yes, the real ‘reason for the season’ who is all those attributes personified, Jesus Christ,” Triplett said. “The Christmas carol concert featuring these songs which have survived the ages may not be a part of the school program today, but they live on in our hearts and we love having the opportunity to share these each year with the community.”
The Palestine Community Theatre donates the use of the Texas Theater free of charge. Volunteers provide the music and serve free refreshments, making this an event open to all at no charge.
