Three arrested in Elkhart on drug charges

ELKHART — A routine “knock and talk” by Anderson County sheriff deputies led to the drug-related arrests of three at an Elkhart residence on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Sheriff Greg Taylor, after receiving a complaint about possible animal abuse and narcotics traffic at a residence in the 200 block of Hawthorne Street in Elkhart, deputies Jeff Taylor and Andrea Pierson, and Sgt. Brian Chason, went to the scene to do a “knock and talk.”

“In cases like these, we just go to the home and talk to those living there, ask them how things are going and assess the situation,” Taylor said. “In this case, deputies asked for and were granted consent to search the home.”

During their search, deputies found drug paraphernalia as well as a small amount of marijuana and cocaine in different areas of the house.

Arrested were suspects Christopher Lynn Warren, 22, of Elkhart, and Billi Rae Thomas, 27, of Elkhart, who were charged with possession of a controlled substance-PG1 (less than 1 gram).

A third suspect, Naomi Diane Jent, 26, of Grapeland, was arrested for possession of marijuana.

The bond on Warren and Thomas was set at $11,000 each by Justice of the Peace Carl Davis, with both being released from the Anderson County Jail Thursday. Jent’s bond was set at $1,000 by Davis.

“We found nothing on the animal complaint,” Taylor said about the incident.
