Texas Comptroller Susan Combs said today that state sales tax revenue in October was $2.03 billion, up 8.2 percent compared to October 2011.
“The state’s growth in sales tax revenue continued to be led by collections from the oil and natural gas-related sectors,” said Combs. “We also saw strong consumer spending drive gains in retail trade and the restaurant sector as well.”
Combs sent November local sales tax allocations totaling $611.5 million to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose taxing districts, up 5.4 percent compared to November 2011.
Texas cities received $404.4 million in November 2012 allocations — up 4.1 percent compared to the same month last year and up 7.7. percent this year.
Two of Anderson County’s three municipalities — Palestine and Frankston — saw decreases in the November 2012 payment over the 2011 payment, with drops of 7.16 percent and 8.88 percent, respectively.
Palestine’s payment of $556,367 dropped $42,941 compared to their 2001 November payment. The city’s payments to-date for 2012 total 5,524,631 — a slight drop of $51,793 (.92 percent) compared to last year’s payment to-date of 5,576,424.
Frankston’s November payment totaled $16,398 — $1,600 less than last year’s November payment. Their 2012 payments to-date increased, though — from $174,133 at this time in 2011 to $178,320 so far this year.
The City of Elkhart saw an 18 percent increase in its November payment — rising $2,242 to $14,577, compared to last November’s $12,335 payment. Their payments to-date increased 6.47 percent — from $98,240 in 2011 to $101,601 so far this year.
Texas’ more than 250 counties saw November allocations of $40.1 million — a 12.9 percent increase compared to November 2011 and a 14.3 percent increase compared to year-to-date figures in 2011.
Anderson County’s payment surpassed the state percentage, with a 43.89 percent increase (or $100,010) in its November 2012 allocation payment of $327,850 compared to the November 2011 payment of $227,840.
The county’s 2012 year-to-date payment of $2,482,302 rose 21.52 percent (or $439,682) compared to the November 2011 payments to-date of $2,042,620.
The reported sales tax figures represent September sales reported by monthly tax filers and July, August and September sales reported by quarterly filers.
