PALESTINE —
A 20-year-old Elkhart woman was arrested for evading arrest and a handful of misdemeanor charges, including DWI, Tuesday after authorities had responded to a call of a reckless driver.
Sara Margaret Hudnall, 20, of Elkhart was arrested on Texas 155, just north of the Palestine city limits, shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor.
The sheriff said his agency was contacted at 5:21 p.m. Tuesday concerning a reckless driver traveling south on Texas 155 towards Palestine in a black 2011 Mazda 3.
Anderson County sheriff’s deputy Ted Linam first observed the vehicle traveling south on Texas 155 near the intersection of FM 321, according to the sheriff.
“He (Linam) turned his lights on trying to stop the vehicle,” Taylor said. “She failed to stop for two miles.”
After stopping and stepping out of her vehicle, Taylor said Hudnall was “very unstable on her feet” and displayed “slurred speech.”
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Brent Taylor subsequently responded to the scene and provided assistance.
During a search of her vehicle, officers found “rolling papers and a glass pipe in her purse and also a prescription bottle that had a little marijuana in it,” according to the sheriff.
In addition to the state jail felony charge of evading arrest/detention, Hudnall was charged with DWI; possession of drug paraphernalia; and possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, the sheriff added.
“We appreciate the citizens who do call these things in,” Greg Taylor said. “A lot of times people don’t want to get involved.”
Records indicated Hudnall was released from the Anderson County Jail Wednesday morning after posting bonds totaling $8,000 and paying a $296 fine.
