PALESTINE —
Anderson County commissioners approved a contract for psych services for the juvenile probation office and discussed, but delayed any formal action, on ordering a burn ban during their regular Monday meeting.
According to Anderson County Chief Juvenile Probation Officer Emily Lane, the East Texas Council of Governments has allotted $53,000 from its Regional Evaluation Services fund to be used for juvenile psychiatric evaluations.
Anderson County’s portion of the funding is $5,729, and the funds are reimbursed to the counties after the evaluations have been conducted.
“This will help out our budget tremendously,” Lane said, “as we are seeing an increase in referrals for psych evaluations among our juveniles.”
In their discussion of a burn ban order, County Judge Robert Johnston reported to commissioners that conditions were a little dry and asked if they wanted to order a burn ban.
Commissioners agreed that the ban did not need to be ordered right away, but would evaluate conditions over the next two weeks.
Also on Monday, the court:
• APPROVED reports from county officials, one budget amendment and bills.
• APPROVED the purchase of a phone line with DSL for the Department of Public Safety utilizing monies from the Justice Court Technology fund.
• ACCEPTED an anonymous donation of $200 to the District Attorney’s Hot Check Department fund.
• APPROVED going out for bids on a new electronic rate contract. The county’s current contract expires in one year.
