Pet adoption fair set Saturday

PALESTINE — Looking for a pet? Consider giving a shelter dog or cat a chance for a new home.

Those interested in adopting a pet should stop by BARC, The Humane Society’s adoption fair from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Petsense on Crockett Road in Palestine.



Clewis reunion

The Clewis family’s 27th reunion will kick-off with a fish fry at 7 p.m. today at the Alderbranch/Union Hope Community Center in Elkhart.

Saturday, activities commence with a church service at 11 a.m. at Union Hope Baptist Church in Elkhart. The Rev. Dwight Callier, pastor of Mount Calvary Baptist Church in Palestine, will be the guest speaker for the morning services.

Lunch/dinner and various other activities will follow the church service at the community center.



Joyce family recognized

Joe Bob Joyce Sr. and wife Lou Ann Joyce of Longview, formerly of Palestine, were honored recently when LeTourneau University in Longview dedicated its newly named Joyce Family Athletic Village in their family’s name.

The athletic complex includes more than $1.5 million in renovations and will serve many intramural and recreational sports for the college students, as well as providing a place for NCAA baseball, softball and soccer teams.

Joe Bob Joyce Sr. is the founder and owner of Joyce Crane Service, a family-run business with 165 employees and dozens of pieces of equipment in locations in Texas, Arkansas and Louisiana. Joyce Crane supplies cranes for use in the oil and natural gas industries, highway construction projects, mining locations and industrial sites.

Joyce serves in many capacities in his community including serving as a deacon, treasurer and chairman of the financial committee at First Christian Church in Longview. He has served on the LeTourneau University Board of Trustees since 2009. The Boys and Girls Club of Gregg County honored Joe Bob Joyce Sr. as its 2012 Champion for Youth in June. He has served on the club’s board of directors for the past seven years.

  • Steps of Faith Dance Center production Saturday

    Steps of Faith Dance Center will hold its annual production at 7 p.m. Saturday at the Palestine Civic Center.
    “We’re going to take you to a land far away and tell you the ‘real’ story of some of your favorite fairy tale characters,” Steps of Faith Dance Center owner Jennifer Ballew said. “The production is full of lively fun music, a reminiscing ol’ Granny, and of course the incredible dancing of several talented students.”
