Palestine will celebrate its fourth annual Adrian Peterson Day on Saturday with a parade and a celebration at the Texas State Railroad.

The record-setting running back for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings and Palestine High School graduate makes a yearly return to Palestine to reconnect with his hometown and to help the local community, all are asked to come out and spend “All Day with Adrian Peterson.”

“One of the things I love about Adrian is that even after all of the success he’s had he’s still just Adrian,” Peterson’s aunt and event organizer Carol Pegues said. “He still loves coming home.”

Saturday’s events will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade from the Anderson County Courthouse down Avenue A to Old Town. Following the parade the happenings will move to the Texas State Railroad Palestine Depot.

One of the main reasons for the celebration is so that local young people and athletes can meet Peterson and learn what can be accomplished from hard work.

“The focus this year is to encourage all young, local athletes to participate and spend the day with Adrian,” Pegues said. “We are happy to also honor in the parade local success in our athletic programs this past year including Cayuga boys football and basketball state championships  and the Neches girls basketball state championship and successful track performances from Oakwood and Palestine’s track teams and other outstanding performances by local athletes.”

Parking at the Texas State Railroad will be $5 per car. Events will include food vendors, music and games.
