PALESTINE —
The community is invited to come out for the “One Nation Under God” Picnic planned Saturday, Sept. 15 at Davey Dogwood Park.
“There are so many negatives out there, we thought it would be nice to have a time to forget all your cares and worries and enjoy time together at the park,” said Bart McReynolds of Neches, who is helping Robert Buckner of Palestine plan the event. “We want to keep it simple and keep it casual.
“We just wanted to have something like they did in the old days — community picnics like they did years ago. It’s not about us — it’s about the community coming out to have a good time.”
The free event will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Davey Dogwood Park’s picnic and pavilion area, located at 900 N. Link St. Some barbecue and bottled water will be available.
“Musical entertainment and inspiring speakers will be provided along with an open mike for anyone wanting to share their hearts or talents,” McReynolds said.
Field games are planned for youth and the “young at heart.”
Families are encouraged to bring picnic fixings, cold beverages (no alcohol), camp chairs or blankets and musical instruments (if desired).
“Take a day off and come enjoy stress-free fellowship with family, friends and neighbors,” McReynolds said. “‘One Nation Under God’ means non-partisan, non-denominational love of God and country.”
For more information about the event, call McReynolds at 903-584-3371.
