County OKs plat for new subdivision

PALESTINE — Anderson County Commissioners Court approved the plat for a new subdivision in the Brushy Creek community, hearing details and discussing future action during its regular meeting on Monday.

Schelby Wells, emergency management coordinator for the City of Palestine and temporary septic system inspector for the county, presented details about the proposed subdivision, which is owned by Mark Mullens.

According to Wells, Mullens is planning a subdivision in a-25 acre plat in Brushy Creek (located in Precinct 3). Called “The Pines at Brushy Creek,” the area will be divided into four lots with two access roads. Mullens will develop the road infrastructure inside the subdivision.

“An exception is being included in the contract that property owners would have to drill their own water wells,” Wells said.

Commissioners agreed to approve the plat for filing purposes, with Wells reporting that an updated map with signature lines will be presented to the court at its next meeting.

Also on Monday, the court:

• APPROVED minutes from previous meetings, budget amendments and bills.

• TABLED approval of an abatement agreement between Anderson County and Mountain Pure, LLC  (Robert Stacks) until more information can be gathered.

• PROCLAIMED June 3-9, 2012 as National Garden Week in Anderson County.

• APPROVED the purchase of Simply ID card software for the purpose of providing employee ID badges.

According to County Judge Robert Johnston, Henderson and Smith Counties use the system, which provides security for county workers and residents by requiring employees to show valid identification.

• APPROVED tax collection contracts for Frankston ISD.

Anderson County Tax Collector-Assessor Teri Garvey reported at an April meeting that Frankston ISD had recently presented her office with a contract, but a previous contract that had been approved by commissioners was never formally approved by the district due to a change in school leadership.

Action taken by commissioners Monday invalidated the former contract and validated the more recent one.

• APPROVED a statement of work between Anderson County and Tyler Technologies for the transfer of tax collection data from Frankston ISD.

• APPROVED a land use agreement between Precinct 2 and resident Ben Baker for sand at a cost of $2 per cubic foot.

• ACCEPTED the Oncor Take a Load Off Texas City Matching Grant Program ($102,130) and awarded bids for air conditioning and lighting projects to Ranger Air & Heat and Henderson Electric, respectively.
