PALESTINE —
A special luncheon and program to honor Korean War veterans will be held Friday in honor of National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day.
The program, which will include speakers, will begin at 11 a.m. at Dogwood Trails Assisted Living & Memory Care, 1625 W. Spring St. in Palestine. Lunch will be served at noon.
“All veterans of every war are very, very important to this country. If not for them, we can not imagine what kind of life we would be living today. I know several Korean War veterans, and several months ago, one commented to me, ‘No one ever talks about ‘our war,’” Dogwood Trails Activity Director Debbie Wesson said. “So, with the help of the other veterans groups, we want to say thank you for your service and we will never forget.”
Veteran organizations participating in the program include the Veterans of Foreign Wars Chapter 991, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 63 and American Legion Post 85. Anderson County Veterans Service Officer Vernon Denman also will participate.
The Korean Armistice was signed July 27, 1953. U.S. presidents for years have signed a proclamation declaring Korean War veterans should be honored on July 27 of each year.
All Korean War veterans are invited to join in for the program and lunch. For information, call Wesson at 903-373-8639.
