City of Palestine to participate in state warrant roundup March 2

PALESTINE — The City of Palestine will join representatives of law enforcement agencies and courts from more than 320 jurisdictions across Texas in combined efforts to host the seventh annual Great Texas Warrant Roundup beginning Saturday, March 2.

The roundup is designed to target thousands of defendants with traffic, parking, city ordinance, penal code and higher charge warrants from participating jurisdictions.

It is believed to be the largest joint operation of its kind with arrests expected to continue for several days.

Hundreds of thousands of notices were recently mailed statewide by participating entities, including the City of Palestine.

“Door hangers have been left at defendants’ residences with outstanding warrants and appearances have also been made at places of employment by the city marshal,” City of Palestine Municipal Court Administrator Courtney Acklin said. “On Feb. 15, several hundred notices were mailed from our collection agency, McCreary, Veselka, Bragg & Allen, from Roundrock.

“The actual dates arrests will begin will not be released but defendants are encouraged to contact the court upon receiving a notice or if they knowingly have a warrant.”

Numerous counties, justices of the peace, constables and municipalities of all sizes will participate in the roundup including Canton, Corsicana, Lindale, Longview, Lufkin, Tyler and Van.

Specific information as to the number of outstanding warrants, how to take care of warrants prior to arrest, and any other special roundup activities or events may be obtained by contacting the representative for each agency.

Affected persons are urged to contact the appropriate jurisdiction or jurisdictions during the next two weeks to dispose of their cases voluntarily to avoid the inconvenience and embarrassment of arrest at home or work in front of family, friends or co-workers.

“We are hoping to get a great response from defendants as the court is allowing them to resolve their tickets short of the possibility of being arrested,” Acklin said. “The judge will be available every Tuesday at 9 a.m. Defendants may contact the court or city marshal at 903-731-8433 or 903-731-8476.”
