Dogwood Jamboree to present "Autumn Country" show Oct. 27

PALESTINE — Scheduled for the same day as the Hot Pepper Festival on Oct. 27, the Dogwood Jamboree’s “Autumn Country” show will feature blue grass group The Coleman Brothers of Longview and the Sowell Family Pickers of Houston, among other performers.

The show will start at 7 p.m. at the Palestine Civic Center.

“Several people have been asking about having a little bluegrass on the show and that night we will do just that,” Dogwood Jamboree Producer Dan Manuel said.

The Sowell Family consists of a family of six with young performers ranging in age from 6 to 16.

Regular artists who also will appear that night along with Manuel will be Sissy Perry, Shelia Wheat, George Lester, Mike Kellogg and Joe Hancock.

“Joe is an entertainer from Hallsville and will be making a return visit to the stage for this special event,” Manuel said. “Joe has fronted for great country music stars such as George Strait and others also and we are happy to have him back for this performance.”

Cecil Crutcher and Jim Orr, who make up local duo Yesteryear also will perform.

The show is punctuated with comedy from regular contributor Sandy “Flo” Singleterry.

“We had a great show in August with over 800 in attendance for the Hall Brothers, who will be back with us for the Dec. 8 show,” Manuel said.

Three young performing artists will compete in the Dogwood Jamboree youth talent search. The winner will be chosen by the audience and a panel of judges and will advance to the talent search finals set for the Dec. 8 Christmas show.

“The Dogwood Jamboree is now nearing the completion of eight years. We have chartered buses coming from several cities and numerous guests from several other states who have already purchased tickets for the event,” Manuel said. “The Jamboree has served as a tremendous tourism event through the years.”

Among those making a special trip to see the Dogwood Jamboree’s October show will be some of the expected 150 to 200 people scheduled to participate in the annual Louisiana-Texas Christian R.V. Rally at Salmon Lake Park.

Advance tickets for the Dogwood Jamboree can be purchased at Dogwood Diner, Cavender’s Boot City, Hometown Pharmacy, Bishops Brisket House (all in Palestine) or by calling 903-729-7080.

The cost for an adult ticket is $15 at the door and $12.50 if purchased in advance. Children under 5 years get in free and cost for children ages 8-10 is $6 each.

“We are so grateful for the sponsors of the show and the encouragement we have received from so many who enjoy such events. We are already planning ahead for shows in 2013 and beyond and with God’s help, we will continue provide for Palestine and surrounding area the quality entertainment they have come to expect when they attend the Jamboree,” Manuel said.
