PALESTINE —
Anderson County Precinct 2 Constable Doug Lightfoot won his third term in office against second-time Democratic challenger Horace Poullard by 764 votes Tuesday in the general election.
Lightfoot won with 1,973 votes over Poullard’s 1,209 votes to capture the race.
“I appreciate everybody who had the faith in me to carry on in the Precinct 2 Constable office. I will continue to go in the path we have been going in,” Lightfoot said at the Anderson County Courthouse Annex as the final results were announced. “I’m looking to hear input from the citizens.”
Poullard also ran against Lightfoot in 2008 — receiving 1,389 votes while Lightfoot won with 1,918 votes in that election.
“I congratulated Mr. Lightfoot — he ran a good campaign, I just didn’t get the votes,” Poullard said from his home after the election. “But like I told him, you never know what the next four years will look like. I may be running again.
“I thank God for the situation and I’m OK with it — it wasn’t for me this time but who knows,” Poullard continued. “I don’t know what God has in store for me but we will find out as time passes.”
