Our Town: Stock Pot in need of holiday items

PALESTINE — The Stock Pot in Palestine feeds many needy people all year, serving lunch five days a week.

During the holidays, the Stock Pot likes to provide something special.

Items needed at this time include turkeys, hams, cornbread mix, dinner rolls, pies and cakes.

Lunch is served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Monday through Friday.

“Special thanks to the grocery stores, churches, restaurants, special event centers and many individuals for donations,” a Stock Pot news release said. “We are thankful for any and everything that we receive.”

Nominate a BBQ Joint

In order to compile its “Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas” list, Texas Monthly is seeking the help of the Texas barbecue community. Executive editor Pat Sharpe has officially announced a call to action amongst Texas barbecue fans to submit their favorite destinations in the state to be considered on the list.

Submissions are currently being accepted via the comments section of Texas Monthly’s “Eat My Words” blog. Tipsters should include the location address, phone number and hours, as well as their personal favorite dishes.

Texas Monthly’s team of experts will soon hit the road to begin evaluating for the next Top 50 feature, which will be published in the publication’s June 2013 issue. Included in their travels and research will be visits to previous Top 50 destinations, including Snow’s, Kreuz, Smitty’s, Louie Mueller’s, and City Market in Luling, and the other 45. Next year will mark the 50th anniversary the magazine has compiled its “Top 50 BBQ Joints in Texas” list.
