PALESTINE —
An 18-year-old Anderson County man has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child after authorities received a complaint he assaulted a 3-year-old girl.
Edward Nathaniel Rose, 18, was arrested by Anderson County sheriff’s authorities on the first-degree felony charge Friday afternoon, according to Troy Black, chief deputy for the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office.
Around 2:30 p.m. Friday, Black said multiple representatives of his agency responded to South Main Street in Elkhart after receiving a report that the family of the alleged victim was chasing the suspect down the street.
“They detained him (Rose) after a brief struggle until deputies arrived,” Black said. “A brief investigation was conducted at the scene which resulted in the arrest of Mr. Edward Nathaniel Rose.”
The chief deputy said the alleged offense occurred inside a residence inside the Elkhart city limits.
“Family members discovered the suspect and the child inside a closet,” Black explained. “While they were attempting to call the sheriff’s office, the suspect ran out of the house and family members began chasing him.”
Black described the suspect as “a family friend” of the alleged victim.
“He was at the residence with permission,” Black said.
The chief deputy said the 3-year-old child was taken to a Tyler hospital for a SANE (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner) exam.
Rose had earlier been booked into the Anderson County Jail on Oct. 6 on a theft charge, but was released two days later after posting bond.
As of late Monday afternoon, Rose remained in the Anderson County Jail in lieu of a $250,000 bond set by Anderson County Justice of the Peace Carl Davis, according to records.
