PALESTINE —
Jamie's Therapeutic Touch day Spa is now offering Ashiatsu oriental bar massage and Ashi Thai, a unique form of barefoot massage.
Owner Jamie Pettiette Rhone and massage therapist Pam McAdams Vickers both completed 18 hours of continued education in Ashi Thai massage.
Ashi Thai is a combination of Thai stretching and compression; the therapist maneuvers limbs into deep relaxing stretches and compression of muscle tissue is applied throughout the session, helping to release spasm, muscle contraction and tension, working within a perfect range of pressure. All techniques are applied with foot pressure.
“It's like a slow dance of therapeutic movement,” Rhone said.
In an Ashiatsu or Ashi Thai session, the client relaxes on a comfortable massage table while the therapist stands on the table holding onto overhead bars for balance and support, using their feet to deliver the massage.
“The advantage of these massages — both for the client and the therapist — is that they allow gravity to do the work, leveraging the therapists' body weight to provide a depth unmatched by other techniques. This technique improves circulation, joint range-of-motion and flexibility,” Rhone said. “For athletes, our Ashiatsu Barefoot Massage or Ashi-Thai are the answer for a speedy recovery and injury prevention. It's perfect for those people who like deep work, and is incredibly relaxing too!”
Ashi-Thai is performed without any oils or creams, and requires the client to wear loose flexible clothing, allowing the therapist to stretch the client's passive body beyond its holding patterns.
Ashi-Thai revitalizes the body, mind and soul leaving the client deeply centered and at peace. Clients of every age and size can benefit from either Ashiatsu and Ashi-Thai massage, both famous for back and hip pain relief, and deep relaxation. Ashiatsu and Ashi-Thai are particularly popular among athletes, but are not recommended during pregnancy, or within 6 weeks of any surgery.
The amount of pressure is carefully monitored throughout the session, and easily adjusted for the client’s comfort.
“Please discuss with your massage therapist any potential health concerns before trying Ashiatsu or Ashi-Thai. When done by a certified AOBT therapist, Ashiatsu and Ashi-Thai is safe, effective and painless, not to mention profoundly relaxing,” Rhone said.
Jamie’s Therapeutic Touch’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Special appointments are available on request.
