PALESTINE —
After receiving an increased number of vehicle burglary reports in the last two months, the Palestine Police Department is asking local residents to take extra precautions to safeguard their belongings by ensuring that vehicles are locked when not occupied.
Care should also be taken to ensure that all valuables are removed from vehicles or locked in the trunk.
“In most cases the initial information indicates that in over half of all vehicle burglaries the vehicles in question were left unlocked,” PPD Sgt. James Muniz said. “In a number of these cases valuable items were left in unlocked vehicles and in plain view.”
There is an ongoing investigation into a number of these incidents, Muniz reported, and the police have identified at least two persons of interest in these cases.
The police are also asking anyone that has information concerning the recent rash of burglaries to call the PPD at 903-729-2254 or Crime Stoppers at 903-729-8477.
