PALESTINE —
Two Palestine men remained in the Anderson County Jail Friday night following a traffic stop Thursday which lead to their arrest on drug charges.
According to Anderson County Sheriff Greg Taylor, Anderson County Patrol Deputy Wes Dean pulled over a dual-wheeled pickup at about 5:11 p.m. Thursday at the corner of Old Elkhart Road and Loop 256 for not having required mud flaps.
“During the traffic stop, Dean found the driver didn’t have a valid driver license,” Taylor said.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a couple of syringes and a clear baggie with some methamphetamine still in it inside a jacket in the backseat. The baggie field tested positive for methamphetamine.
The driver of the truck, Jerry Wayne Turner, 46, of Palestine, and passenger Larry Lynn Mills, 64, of Palestine were arrested for possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 (4 to 200 grams).
“The total weight was 8 grams of meth. The street value would be several hundreds of dollars,” Taylor said.
Each man received a $200,000 bond for possession of a controlled substance by Justice of Peace Precinct 4 James Westley. Turner received an additional $1,284 in traffic fines and Mills received traffic fines for $767.
