Salvation Army trying to rebuild funds, seeks volunteers to ring bells

PALESTINE — Throughout the year, the Salvation Army provides help to local residents who need assistance.

“We are at the point where we need to rebuild our funds,” local Salvation Army secretary/treasurer Harold Pettit said. “Passing out food and helping pay electricity bills hit us hard.”

People are asked to donate to the Salvation Army by mailing donations to East Texas National Bank, P.O. Box 77 0, Palestine, Texas, 75802.

“We are hoping that individuals, as well as churches and businesses will step up to the plate,” Pettit said. “We don’t want people to go hungry or go without electricity.”

The Salvation Army also is seeking volunteers to ring bells at area businesses this holiday season to raise funds for the organization, a longtime Christmas tradition of the Salvation Army.

“All funds donated will stay in Anderson County,” Pettit said.

The Salvation Army is housed in the Basics of Life Storehouse in Palestine building located at the corner of Sycamore and Kolstad streets.

For more information on helping the organization or volunteering to ring bells, call Pettit at 903-731-9270.
