Neches teams playing to aid cancer fight
PALESTINE — The Neches basketball teams will be thinking pink Tuesday night.
The Neches boys and girls basketball teams will be hosting LaPoynor Tuesday night for homecoming and a Cure for Cancer games, with all proceeds from the games going to the American Cancer Society.
“So many people on our team have been touched by cancer so this is very meaningful for us" Neches girls basketball coach Andy Snider said. “So we decided to do something about it."
The basketball teams have adopted a slogan for the event — “Join our team, share our dream"
Homecoming festivities will start at 5 p.m. and the girls basketball game starts at 6 p.m. followed by the boys basketball game.
The girls will be wearing pink shoelaces for breast cancer and the boys will be wearing blue shoelaces for prostate cancer.
Along with the money raised from the games, Neches is raising money for the event in other ways as well.
The fundraiser has included Neches teachers collecting money with the one who collects the most getting her hair dyed pink. Also, the basketball teams are selling pink shoelaces and there will be a drawing for cakes.
“We are just trying to help out and do what we can to be a part," Snider said.
