Dance, lessons to benefit Montalba Chapel
MONTALBA — Swing and waltz dance lessons will be taught Friday night and a dance will be held as a fund-raiser to renovate the Montalba Chapel, formerly Montalba Methodist Church.
Dance lessons will be offered from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Country Carousel in Montalba. Cost is $5 per person. The dance will be from 7 to 10:30 p.m. at the same location. Cost for the dance is $10 per person with all proceeds benefiting the renovation project.
Dee jay and dance instructor will be Mike Balash from Nacogdoches. Music will include ballroom, country, Cajun and clogging. The dance floor is a covered patio and patrons should dress according to weather conditions.
The Montalba Chapel was donated to the Montalba Community Improvement Association in 2007. The building is a old Methodist church that has historical value to the community. However, it has four rotten beams across the front of the structure that make it unsafe to use. It is estimated that it will cost almost $15,000 to replace the beams, according to the association.
The Country Carousel is on Texas 19, just north of downtown Montalba. For more information, contact Sherrill Poff at 903-729-4007.
